After reading the positive feedback I booked this hotel. Unfortunately it was a mistake.
Pros:
- good location
- bathroom was good
- breakfast was ok
Cons:
- sleeping was not possible since the room was directed to the main road and it was loud all night (no isolation, there were holes between the window you could directly see through ...)
- bed was not clean
- booked for 3 persons, got towels, e.g. only for two
- asked for a different room, they showed me 2 alternative rooms that were even worse
- had to pay 1000 THB as deposit for the key card (they didn t mention it during booking)
- reception staff not friendly
- seen many 2-star hotels in Thailand that were far better than this 3-star hotel (rooms, service)
- poor value for money

We lived in this hotel already just several times. Food is good, pool is else require renovation, however he is good still. Location for viewings of sight is excellent. We meet next year

I was told at reception desk that the better rooms in the new wing are not available through the Online Reservation sites. So you ll have to make do with the large and clean but old rooms if you book online.
The tourist agent and taxi services in the lobby are way overpriced. Check outside in Banglaphu or Kao San Road area nearby for plenty of cheaper options.
WIFI only available in the lobby, 150 Bhat for 2 hours.

Wee enjoyed our stay at Royal Hotel in Bangkok very much. The hotel is placed in Down Town - close to Khao San Road, Grand Palace og the river. The taxi-service at the hotel was very good - and wee booked a lot of tours.

Really enjoy this place. Been staying here a number of times. Ok - a bit worn down but big rooms in the old buildning, a very nice and quite big pool area and great food in the coffee shop. Try the pat thai!
