Accommodation and facilities:
We loved our stay at Coral Bay Resort. The beach is great and quiet, no Russians. The Bungalow was big enough for all 4 of us. However, we think this resort needs a tone up as some facilities show some wear/age. The pool area definately needs updating.
Enjoyed Amata Spa, recommend everyone to try that. We will be back next year.
Reservation service:
no problem, very efficient.

Friendly and efficient frontdesk-straff. Rooms are spacious and wel maintained. OCEAN-view is marvelous.
Exterior of the bungalo s is a bit dated. Thatched roofs are worn-out and need replacement.
Although the location is top it looks like tatt this resortt is on it s return.
One beach-bar was closed and the other bar/restaurant wasn t suitable for collecting drinks etc in bathing-suit. Diner restaurant is overpriced.
Although high-season the resort was only 50% occupied.
Stayed her during high-season
Reservation service:

I have been keeping The Coral Bay in mind since my first visit to Koh Samui in late nineties. I passed it by many times and looked around. Prime location, away from noisy Chaweng beach but still close to town, wide beachfront strap which is a rarity nowadays, spacious sea-view bungalows, lush gardens… Indeed, natural luxury, which is the resort’s slogan. Too bad now, its better times have definitely passed. Now it looks neglected and untended. There has been no renovation for years. Bungalows are still comfortable, as they were initially constructed. I bet you won’t get that space for that money anymore anywhere else on the island. We stayed at a PDF (I guess it means paired deluxe family) consisting of two big interconnected bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and a separate bathroom, and a spacious sea-view terrace. I estimate the total space to well exceed 100 sq. meters. The bungalow is so cozy and eco-friendly. It is all-wooden inside and outside, including furniture, has a thatched roof and natural stone in bathrooms. However, renovation has been needed years ago. Or at least elementary day-to-day maintenance. Windows are blotchy. My wife had to buy a detergent at 7/11 and clean the glass herself. The pool is out-of-date and small. Chlorine-cleaning is not maintained, which the management believes to be a plus, but it means muddy and greasy water. If you wear a mask and dive, you would hardly see your stretched hand. All-wooden sunbeds are withered, futons are covered with spots and slits all around. As a result, the pool is unattended. The beach is not cleaned everyday from sea weeds. Unlike in any well-managed resort, coconuts are dangerously hanging over your head everywhere. Let alone our 5-year kid, we were afraid for ourselves. I had to tell the management about that, and in a couple of days they cut some of those bombs along the paths in the gardens, but on the beach it all remained the same. The beach hut, supposed to be a beachside snack bar, is always closed. I mean, 24/7. Variety of food displayed at breakfast is somewhat an absolute minimum. The main restaurant is almost unattended. The food is pretty good, however, the overall atmosphere is somewhat dead-alive. The menu booklets look like they have never been renewed since the resort’s opening, well-handled and stained. They have a very beautiful lounge next to the restaurant, sort of a big pergola with multicolored clothes fancifully twisted and hanging over your head while you are sitting back in comfy cane sofas and chairs. Wonderfully designed idea, but if you look closer, those clothes have never been to laundry and ironing since the decoration was initially made… So wonderfully conceived, designed and created, the resort has gone rusty and now is in utter desertion… So sad. The staff is not bad, they keep smiling and do their job somehow, but, as everything else in the resort, people leave you with that impression of indifference and negligence. One night, we saw two fat rats strolling on the roof of the adjoining bungalow! My wife was shocked, and it nearly became the final straw for us… But we decided to stay there to the very end, since the accommodation was fully prepaid in advance. The resort’s website has not been updated for four years now, links don’t work properly, which should have been a troubling sign for us. Perhaps, that was the time when the resort was sold by its initial owners… Now it is clenched between Nora Beach and Anantara Lawana which both have worse beach slots and sea access, but look well managed, clean, always full of guests, lights, music and fun. IN SUMMARY: for us, it was not the worst choice because we have been to Koh Samui many times, and in fact, all we need is a spacious room. The Coral Bay provides it, and that’s value for money. We always rent a car and go around the island, attending various places and resorts with their pools, beaches and restaurants. But for those who are not that well acquainted with the island and prefer to get everything in a single basket, to have comfort, good facilities and services at one place, The Coral Bay is not recommended. At least, until it changes to the better, someday, somehow. P.S. If I had money, I would buy and resurrect it, turn it into a real pearl…

The bungalows where huge. They are nice but they getting old...the garden is great. The pool needs constructions especially the area around the pool. The staff was....hmmmm not to compare with other thai people we ever met. I don´t know the reason what made them so bored and uninterested...the beach was nice but there is nothing around to have a nice drink or a quick lunch...you need to go by car or bike to the city which is very close...but its not possible to walk along the beach. Breakfast was ok. Not more not less....no fruit carving...a bit loveless...it was low season we get a bungalow which is very far away to walk to the pool and our 8 year old daughter had a bit problems to find the way...it was not possible to move to another bungalow although there where just 5 familys...if there was 5....

It s really value for money , especially if you plan to join day tours anyway. My dad got a fever after joining the safari tour (may be too tired) , and it was amazing that he was fully recovered/recharged just by 1-day enjoying the fresh air and wonderful garden walking in the hotel. Of course, he told me that the nice room service served him the best, and he could take a good rest and he enjoyed the sunshine just at the doorway.

Hotel is located in a very beautifull area, very silent, green, comfortable. Nice beach, clean. Close to the tourist area (about 20 min walking), but good far from the noise of town... I would like to recommend those people, who are tired from city noise to be some time in silence and relax. Friendly personal, very convenient rooms (that is not 5 stars, but more close to 4 stars hotel). I like that!!!!

This resort was absolutely stunning. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food in the downstairs restaurant had some of the best Thai food i tasted. The resort is just out of the main street of Chaweng which was perfect as the main road chaweng can stink and be quite dirty. The bungalows were perfect with large bulcanys.

Who we are Coral
Bay Resort is designed for travelers in search of a relaxing and eco-friendly
holiday experience. The peaceful natural environment of Coral Bay Resort
minimizes the stress of today urban lifestyle and offers a welcome alternative
to the crowded concrete establishments that unfortunately are becoming
all too prevalent on Koh Samui.
Our 56 bungalows are set amid 10 acres of lush tropical
gardens, ensuring an atmosphere of serenity and privacy. Surrounded
by luxuriant coconut palms and flowering shrubs, the charming Samui-style
dwellings built of wood and stone with traditional thatched roofs
offer the highest standards of comfort.
Our Philosophy
Since opening in 1982, we have worked hard to maintain the delicate
balance between preserving the natural charm of Koh Samui while providing
the amenities for our discerning guests. The abundant tropical flora
creates a sanctuary for many species of birds, butterflies and
squirrels.
Ever conscious of the environment, our swimming
pools are 100% chlorine-free and we use recycled waste water to
maintain the extensive gardens and new plants in our nursery.
The waste
water is pretreated through stages of septic tanks, bio tanks and
settlement tanks before filtering through a natural treatment system
of media, aquatic flora / fauna and finally polished off with a
protein skimmer which purifies the water further and convert harmful
nitrates into beneficial ones before it goes into our sprinkler
system.
Where we
are We are situated on Yai Noi Bay, north Chaweng
Beach on the north eastern part of Koh Samui, about 10 minutes from
the airport.

bungalows are spaced well apart from one another and surrounded by a

Deluxe Double & Beachfront Deluxe Double
Contemporary design elements combine with the one-of-a-kind
interior and exterior furnishings to create a uniquely elegant yet funky
ambiance. Each spacious bungalow comprises 75 m2 (including a large
25 m2 balcony), with large bay windows, and is decorated with unusual
furnishings handcrafted from indigenous Koh Samui materials.
There are mosaic murals in some rooms, inlaid coconut shell
and bamboo screens in others combined with original art pieces, native
fabrics and unique artifacts. The large airy bathroom boasts a small
interior garden, hammered stainless sink bowls and waterfall
showers.
**FOR A FAMILY / PARTY OF
THREE OR MORE PERSONS, WE RECOMMEND ONE OF OUR FAMILY BUNGALOWS.**
Deluxe Family
Newly renovated and
set amidst lush tropical gardens toward the rear of the property, the
Deluxe Family bungalows are furnished in our signature funky-chic style
and are perfect for a small family or several friends. The 82 m2 two-bedroom
units feature original furniture handcrafted from indigenous Koh Samui
wood and locally produced fixtures and artwork.
The two sleeping areas are separated by the dressing
foyer and bathroom. The front bedroom is suitable for parents, while
the two twin-sized beds and day bed in the rear bedroom are perfect
for children.
The large airy bathroom boasts hammered stainless
sink bowls and waterfall showers. Each 20 m2 balcony looks out onto
the gardens, some with vistas of the sea in the distance.
Premium Deluxe & Beachfront Premium Deluxe Family
Perfect for families
or a group of friends, the original furniture, art pieces, native fabrics
and unique artifacts in these spacious bungalows create a rustic yet
elegant feel.
Located towards the front of the property, these
beachfront units are just steps away from the beach while the higher
units command breathtaking sea views. The 104 m2 bungalows are built
like a duplex: the two side-by-side-bedrooms with interconnecting
doors share the large 30 m2 balcony, but have separate large and
airy bathrooms.
Baan Chomjan Villa
The stunning Baan Chomjan Villa
is located on one side of the resort, close enough for easy access to
the beach, pool and restaurants yet totally self-contained for those
desiring greater solitude. Offering uninterrupted vistas over a secluded
bay, the luxurious Baan Chomjan Villa is aptly named 'moon-viewing house'.
The Thai word 'jan'(moon) also refers to the clusters of huge white
moon flowers that climb the trellis in front of the spacious and ultra-private
villa and bloom only in the late afternoon. Built of teak, local
hardwoods, sandstone and slate, the villa embodies a simultaneously
lavish yet earthy design, redolent of an island-style country
residence.
The 55 m2 master bedroom on the ground floor opens onto a spacious
private terrace. With its ensuite bathroom, chaise lounge, writing desk,
and 29' cable TV, the large airy space makes a perfect hideaway within
the villa. The room stays pleasantly cool either by using the air conditioner
or in the cooler seasons, by opening the sliding doors to let in the
sea breezes. Upstairs, each of the two 32 m2 bedrooms has a balcony, ensuite
bathroom and a ceiling fan as well as air conditioner.
Ingeniously arrayed under a tall vaulted ceiling,
the fully air conditioned open-plan living room, den and kitchen/dining
area offer maximum space and functionality. The den has plenty of comfortable
seating for reading or watching the 50 flat panel LCD TV with its surround-sound
speaker system. Web surfers can check emails on the computer
workstation with an ADSL connection online all the time. Wi-Fi is available from
various access points in the villa (den, upstairs balcony, living and
dining rooms and the terrace). For those who prefer cooking at home,
the European-style kitchen is fully equipped with all major
appliances including a 4-burner stove and oven, microwave as well as
utensils and cutlery.
Although the hotel pool is only a few meters away,
an added perk is the new 4m x 10m private 100% chlorine-free pool for
the exclusive use of Baan Chomjan and Baan Chomdao guests. Built on
a raised concrete surface with a wooden deck, it is surrounded by sandstone
tiles and features a lava rock waterfall. Nearly hidden behind lush
tropical trees and flowers, the lap pool is sunny until noon and stays
pleasantly cool and shady during the hot afternoons. The built-in
swim jet will provide a challenge for those in need of a serious
workout.
The beautifully appointed Baan Chomjan is set apart
in its own compound with private entrance and night time security. The
rate is inclusive of breakfast and tax for up to six persons. For an
extra charge, an additional two people can be accommodated by converting
the two day beds in the den into single beds. Those sleeping in the
den can either share one of the upstairs en-suite bathrooms or use the
guest toilet downstairs. Baan Chomjan residents also have full use
of all hotel facilities.
Restaurant & Bar
Eats and drinks Whether you
are a carnivore or a vegetarian, a bon vivant or a teetotaller, you
will find something to satisfy your needs on our extensive food and
drink menu. Our guests often say we serve the best Thai food on the
island. They appreciate that we do not tone down the flavors to
satisfy westernized notions of Thai cuisine unless we are
specifically requested to do so.
Plus we use only the fresh coconut cream in our
curries and cocktails. (With nearly 200 coconut trees on site, why buy
the canned stuff?) At the Pakarang (coral in Thai)
restaurant, you will never feel enclosed, whether dining indoors or
al fresco on the wooden deck. Sipping an exotic cocktail (shaken, never
stirred) at the Coco-rock Beach Bar is an ideal way
to celebrate the end of yet another perfect day at Coral Bay Resort.
Services & Facilities
HANGING OUT HERE
Being in paradise doesn not mean being bored! On site is a fresh water
swimming pool (with childrens section) overlooking the sea, plus ping
pong and beach volleyball. The coral reef in the bay offers good snorkeling,
fishing and shelling. The tiny island of Koh Matlang opposite the
resort has an adjacent reef and is accessible by short long-tail
boat or at low tide, by wading. Snorkeling equipment and kayaks are available for
rent, as are jeeps and motorbikes. Windsurfers, parasailers, scooters
and jet skis can be rented on the main part of nearby Chaweng beach.
Our workstation at the lobby is available for guests in
need of their daily email fix, while those who have brought along their
Wi-Fi enabled notebooks can plug in at the lobby, restaurant
and swimming pool if they are away from their rooms.
AMATA SPA
Our new spa is located next to the swimming pool. With its cool
interiors and intimate setting, it is an ideal hideaway for a day of
pampering and healing. Detox in the infrared sauna followed by a
high pressure jet massage, then bliss out under the gentle care of
our well-trained therapists.
We take pride in using only the very best natural
products to ensure that you benefit fully from each treatment with no
possibility of an allergic reaction. Consult our Spa Manager, who is
also a registered nurse, to choose a therapy to suit your needs or have
a package custom-designed for you. Whatever your choice, we aim to de-stress,
detoxify, soothe away your aches and pains, rejuvenate and elevate your
sense of well-being. Go ahead, make your day! Give your body the
