than nationally-known Thai events, Krabi observes several local
festivals such as the Andaman Sea Festival which is held annually in
November to signal the beginning of the holiday season. |

The festival features cultural events as well as
water sports. The setting adrift of the Chao Le Boat on sland is a
religious event observed by the Chao Le people on every full moon of the
sixth and eleventh month.
During this event boats are ceremoniously released at the beach as a
symbolic act of purging bad luck while participants engage in singing
and in dancing the Rong Ngeng around the boats to be released. |
